Sun Awareness
What is UPF and Why is it important to MaxOut your UV protection?
Ultraviolet radiation, or UV, is present in sunlight. Too much exposure leads to skin damage, sunburns and premature aging! Too much over time can lead to skin cancer, cataracts and other health problems.
- Over 80% of your lifetime UV exposure occurs before you turn 18 years of age.
- One serious sunburn can double your chances for developing skin cancer later in life.
- Over 80% of Americans do not apply or reapply enough sunscreen to maximize the protection value it can have. Areas missed by sunscreen may get burned, and lead to serious problems later in life.
UPF, Ultraviolet Protection Factor is a rating system that shows how well a fabric protects your skin from solar UV. The UPF rating system is from 15 50+. Anything under 15 is not considered to be UV protective.
- A T-shirt, when dry, only has a rating factor of 7, which is deemed not UV protective. This rating may decrease further when wet.
- MaxOut UV Swimwear uses 50+ UPF fabrics for all of their swimwear. That means that they block 98+% of the UV rays.
